SGC Board Maintains Advocacy Focus During Leadership Change
Port Pirie Mayor Leon Stephens will take a leave of absence from the Spencer Gulf Cities Board as he contests the upcoming State Election. During this period, Port Augusta Mayor Linley Shine, has been appointed Acting Chair for SCG and will maintain strong advocacy around our region’s priorities.
The SGC Board, comprising the Mayors of Port Augusta, Port Pirie and Whyalla, plays a key strategic role liaising with governments on behalf of the region’s communities.
During this period, Port Pirie Deputy Mayor Alan Zubrinich will act as Mayor Stephens’ proxy on the Board, ensuring Port Pirie Council and its community interests continue to be represented.
Acting Chair Mayor Linley Shine said “the Board remains focused on progressing key regional priorities.”
“We have a strong intergovernmental agenda and will shortly release our Regional Partnership Priorities to election candidates and political parties. These priorities focus on outcomes in housing, infrastructure, economic development, the environment, social development, and workforce and skills development. Strengthening our advocacy and relationships with all levels of government remains a priority, and I am pleased to take on the Acting Chair role during this period” Mayor Shine said.
